A note from Lynn Ong to her NBS

I’d like to thank you for your help in my previous attempt at sourcing internship possibilities in China. I decided on exploring that opportunity at a later time, instead of using it for my professional attachment requirements.

I just wanted to let you know I’m currently on exchange in Tsinghua, and it has been an enriching experience. I am taking interesting electives like business negotiation taught in Chinese and corporate finance. Two weeks ago, I was privileged to have had dinner with ex foreign minister George Yeo on campus; there was a genuine exchange of thoughts and ideas, and he revealed a personal side. That evening, I saw humility and kindness in wisdom, and it left me with lingering afterthoughts.

Before coming to China, I received a notice from Business China(通商中国 )that I was nominated by NTU to attend the Future China Global Forum 2011, which was part of a scholarship that covered the cost of the two day forum ($3800 per participant). Beyond the excitement at the learning opportunity, was deep appreciation for NTU’s awareness of my interest and leanings toward China, its language and culture.

As part of the acceptance of this opportunity, I had to write an essay in relation to China that was entitled to win an immersion trip to Beijing if it was selected. The essays were assessed by a group of panellists and the results were released a few weeks ago. I was awarded a trip to Beijing! Though I am already in Beijing on exchange, I will be participating in corporate visits and cultural interactions with another university. I am grateful for this new opportunity once again.

Therefore, I’d like to thank you, whether you were part of the nomination process or otherwise. It might have been Prof Patricia, Prof Geraldine, Michelle or Shi Yun. I’m not certain, but I’d like to extend my deepest appreciation to NTU for opening windows of learning opportunities.
